The biggest swimming pool in the world

This swimming pool was included in the Guinness Book of Records as the largest in the world for good reason – its length equals 20 Olympic pools. It may not be possible to swim through the first one.
The swimming pool is located in Algarrobo (Chile) in the resort of Alfonso del Mar Resort, which every year attracts thousands of tourists from all over the world. Perhaps puzzling is the sense of building such a huge swimming pool right on the shores of the Pacific Ocean – those willing to swim in the Pacific Ocean was deterred by the low temperature of the water.
And so, after almost five years of construction, in December 2006, the largest swimming pool in the world was put into operation. Thus, it deprived the title of 6 times smaller Orthlieb swimming pool located in Casablanca, Morocco. The Chilean basin is 1013 metres long and covers a total area of 8 hectares. At its deepest point, it is more than 35 metres long and contains as much as 250 million litres of water. Costs are also staggering – the construction alone cost 2 billion dollars and the annual maintenance as much as 4 billion dollars.
