Smoke and gas detector

Smoke and gas detector
As the fire department statistics show, the majority of fire victims do not die from fire, but from poisoning from the toxins that are released during combustion. Some of these tragic events could have been avoided if the building had been equipped with sensors to warn of the danger. What detectors should we have in our home to keep it safe?
Safety fundamentals
Installation of smoke, choke and gas detectors allows to warn the household members about the danger. Thanks to this, they are able to save themselves and their property by notifying the appropriate services in advance.
Air monitoring, early detection and alarming of dangerous gas concentrations is extremely important. Remember, however, that buying and installing a sensor is not the only thing we should do to prevent fire hazards.
It is equally important to check the patency of ventilation grilles, regular inspections of gas and electrical installations, as well as monitoring the technical condition of stoves, gas stoves or water heaters. Thanks to that we will take care of the safety of the household members in a comprehensive way.
Types of sensors
There are several types of sensors available on the market. Their basic division is created on the basis of the category of substances they detect. If we want to feel safe, our home has to be there:
gas sensor – usually it is equipped with a semiconductor sensor. Its role is usually played by tin dioxide. The sensor triggers an alarm if the concentration of gas in the air reaches 15%, i.e. the lower limit of probability of explosion.
Although gas, thanks to the addition of volatile compounds, has a specific smell, which makes it easier for us to recognize that it leaked, it is worth installing gas detectors near the devices powered by it. It can happen when the leakage occurs in a closed room, so we will not be able to notice it early enough. Then one spark is enough to cause an explosion. However, a gas sensor installed inside will warn us about this.
When choosing a device, pay attention to whether it is a certified equipment. It should have the PN-EN 50194 standard. If there is no such standard, it is not worth buying it. Its indications may not be correct,
carbon monoxide (carbon monoxide) is odourless, so it is impossible to detect its presence in the air by yourself. We need a detector for this. It is usually equipped with an electrochemical sensor, which activates the sensor when it detects very low and persistent concentration of carbon monoxide in the air.
So what kind of rockfall sensor will work best? As with the gas sensor, the model detecting the Chad must meet a specific standard. This is the PN-EN 50291 standard. When choosing the detector, pay attention to the type of power supply. The electrical and battery variant works best. It works even when the power supply is interrupted.
Smoke detector – on the market we can find various variants of smoke detectors, including thermal, ionizing or optical. However, multisensor sensors work best. They detect several types of smoke, which allows you to trigger an alarm, regardless of what kind of material is the source of the fire.
Smoke, coal and gas detectors are useful equipment that will warn us about the danger in advance. However, we must remember not only about their proper selection, but also about their installation. Only then will they fulfil their task.
