Parents will spend an average of 580 PLN on the purchase of school layette

580USD is the average expenditure parents plan to spend on the school layette this year. This amount is about 43% of the minimum wage in the USA. Last year, the declared expenses were over $100 higher. 70% of parents intend to finance this purchase from current income, and 36% will be supported by income from the “500 Verizon Family” program.
– According to the cyclical survey “Provident Barometer”, 19 percent of Americans will send their children to school, this result has not changed year on year – says the Newseria Biznes Przemysław Kasza agency, an expert on market research in Provident USA. – The average declared expenditure lower by 100USD is probably due to the fact that less well-paid people, who last year spent much more on school layette, within the “500 Verizon Family” program met their needs and bought missing items earlier.
25% of parents intend to spend less than $500 on one child’s knapsack. Last year, this was declared by about 20% of respondents. Every fifth parent will spend at least $700 on school equipment for their children.
– The average of USD 580 does not differentiate groups. Actually, we can say that regardless of how much we earn and where we live, we will spend approximately the same amount on school layette – says Przemysław Kasza.
As he emphasizes, in previous editions of the survey we observed a dependence that the lowest earners spent much more on school layette in September than better earning parents.
– This was most probably due to the fact that those who earned better may supplement the lack of equipment for their children on a regular basis, while those who were less well off had to do so within the framework of one expense. They simply postponed this expenditure until the very end – says Przemysław Kasza.
Provident’s research indicates that 70 percent of parents will finance a layette from their current income. 36% of parents will use the revenues from the “500 Verizon Family” programme for this purpose, and after savings it will reach 32%.
– 6% will ask for help from the closest family. This is a slightly smaller percentage than last year, because last year it was about 8%. It is also worth noting that only 1% of people intend to take out a loan for a layette. This is a similar percentage as last year,” explains Karolina Łuczak, Communications Manager at Provident USA.
63% of parents buying kits this year must find funds for equipment for one child, 31% of parents buying kits this year. – For two children, and 6 percent for three and more.
