Nugget Point Lighthouse New Zealand

Nugget Point Lighthouse New Zealand

Originally, there were three lighthouse caretakers in the lighthouse, but as the technology developed, their number was limited to one family. Since 1989, the management of the station has been fully automated from the dispatch room in Wellington.
The current owner and operator of the lighthouse – the Maritime Office of New Zealand – makes it available to tourists. However, it does not allow visitors to enter the lighthouse. It is best to visit Nugget Point early in the morning or in the evening to capture a wonderful view of sunrises or sunsets. If you look down at the rocks directly below the tower, you’ll see penguins, seals and the various species of birds they home to. Hector dolphins often look out of the water.
