LUX – an important parameter for LED bulbs
The luxometer may be used to measure the intensity of the light emitted by a light source, including an LED filament lamp. Light intensities measured in lux indicate to the user how much light generated by the source will actually reach the area. This parameter is sensitive to the distance to be maintained between the light source and the plane on which the light stream is projected.
How do I choose LED bulbs?
Generally, LED bulbs have higher light intensity parameters than the corresponding light output and power consumption of conventional bulbs. On the packaging of the LED bulb we should find information on how many luxes will be on a specific area, if we install the lamp at a height of 2.5 or 3 meters. This information is particularly important from the point of view of lighting users and designers.
For example, LED bulbs used in commercial buildings, to illuminate the store space, should have about 500 lux, and to illuminate storage and segregation rooms – only 300 lux. Drawing stations in architectural studios should be illuminated with light bulbs with a light intensity of 750 lux. The greatest requirements for this parameter are placed on the lighting of sports facilities, such as stadiums. These should be illuminated with at least 1300 lux LEDs to allow for the transmission of sports and cultural events.
The requirements for this parameter for LED bulbs to be used at home will be significantly lower than indicated. Only in the kitchen, bathroom or living room will a higher level of light intensity be required, i.e. higher lux levels per LED bulb.
