Car kit – what should it contain?
First-aid kits are not mandatory in the USA, but are very necessary equipment for a car. Its contents may turn out to be priceless in the least expected moment, so there should always be a place for it in the car.
Make sure that such a box or material sachet never lacks a few basic things to help the injured – both in terms of minor injuries and serious road accidents. Unfortunately, in practice it often turns out that the driver does not have a first-aid kit at all, the first-aid kit is almost empty or contains heavily obsolete or poor quality equipment. Meanwhile, an investment in a decent first aid kit is an investment in one’s own safety and the safety of passengers and other road and pedestrian users.
Here is a list of things that should be included in the first-aid kit:
– flexible and inflexible bandages
– Compressed bandages
– oxygenated water
– dressing plasters of different sizes
– slices on the spool
– hydrogel burn dressings
– elastic wristbands
– mouthpiece for mouth-to-mouth breathing
– triangular headscarf
– scissors
– safety pins
– latex gloves.
– foil thermo-insulating blanket
– gas compress
– disinfectant tissues
– disposable masks
– instructions for first aid
– list of contents
Bandages, plasters and other accessories must be sterile clean, closed packaging ensures sterility even for several years. The exact list and quantity of individual items in the first aid kit is not strictly regulated, although there are EU standards on this subject, especially DIN 13164. Bandages, gloves or dressings are usually placed in a few pieces each. Medicines should not be stored in the first-aid kit. Some manufacturers also add disposable alkotests.
On Ebay and in online shops, the cheapest first-aid kits cost literally a few dollars, but these are versions with a maximum reduction in content. For a few dozen dollars we will buy better utensils, often in a set with a warning triangle, a reflective vest or a small extinguisher. Large, professional rescue bags are the expense of the government of two hundred and several dozen – three hundred and several dozen USD. Apart from typical accessories, they include, among others, orthopaedic collars, light sticks, special knives for cutting belts, dressing nets or rails for immobilizing limbs. The contents of the car first aid kit should be reviewed at least once every six months and possibly supplemented. It should not be treated as a container for light bulbs, screws, rubbish and other such things.
